Medical First Aid (MFA) fees

Course fee

For the whole course of 4 days, paid at booking.

The fee is the same for every candidate, from Kerala, the rest of India or abroad, and the course is held at the Kochi campus. Book a batch date on this page to hold a seat; the fee is paid online when you book.

Who takes this course

Medical First Aid is for seafarers who are medically fit and have completed either one year of sea service or six months of sea service plus DG Shipping-approved pre-sea training. It builds on the basic Elementary First Aid training taken at the start of a seafaring career.

After the course

Completing this four-day course and its exit exam qualifies the seafarer to provide medical first aid onboard. The certificate is valid for five years and is renewed through the Refresher Medical First Aid course at the academy; deck officers of Second Mate rank or above who go on to be designated in charge of medical care can follow it with the Medical Care Course.

Course Overview

The Medical First Aid (MFA) course equips seafarers with the ability to provide medical assistance in case of injury or illness until professional medical care becomes available. This course covers topics such as vital sign assessment, CPR, bandaging, immobilization techniques, and care for common onboard injuries. It complies with STCW Regulation VI/4-1 and is mandatory for officers designated with medical responsibilities at sea.
