Course Details

This course provides comprehensive training in seamanship, cargo handling, maintenance work on deck, operation and maintenance of machinery, swimming, physical drills, workshop training, rope and mast climbing, lifesaving appliances usage, fire fighting exercises, and ship visits. It prepares candidates for roles such as Ordinary Seaman, Wiper, and further progression to Able Seaman or Motorman.

Candidates must be medically fit as per DG Shipping standards. A valid passport is mandatory.

Who takes this course

For candidates aged between 17.5 and 25 (up to 27 for degree or diploma holders) who have passed 10th standard with Science and Mathematics and the required marks in English, and want to begin a seafaring career on the deck or engine side.

After the course

Graduates sign on as Ordinary Seaman or Wiper and, with the required sea time, progress to Able Seaman or Motorman ratings. It is the academy's standard entry route into rating positions on merchant vessels.
