Who takes this course

For school-leavers who have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, candidates with a qualifying three-year diploma, or graduates with a four-year degree in electrical, electronics or a related engineering stream, who want to start a career as an Electro-Technical Officer on merchant ships. An INDOS number and a DG Shipping medical fitness certificate are required.

After the course

Graduates go on to sign on as Electro-Technical Officer cadets and, after the required sea service, sit their ETO certificate of competency exams. As they progress in rank, ETOs can take courses such as the academy's High Voltage Operational Level and High Voltage Management Level.
