Eurotech Maritime Academy recently organized a comprehensive Anti-Ragging and Anti-Drugs Awareness Campaign as part of its Student Welfare Programme. The event took place on 17 September 2026, from 02:30 PM to 05:00 PM, and was dedicated to the theme of "Awareness, Prevention, Responsible Conduct & Safe Campus".
The primary objective of the campaign was to strengthen awareness regarding the harmful effects of substance abuse and ragging. It aimed to encourage responsible behavior, foster a supportive campus environment, and empower students to seek help and report concerns without hesitation.

The academy invited two distinguished resource persons to address the students and faculty:
Dr. Geetha Jacob (Clinical Psychologist): Dr. Jacob delivered a session focusing on preventive awareness and the psychosocial aspects of substance misuse. She emphasized the importance of responsible decision-making, healthy coping strategies, and seeking professional or institutional support when difficulties arise.
Mr. Shihab Chelakkulam (Assistant Sub Inspector of Police, Kochi): Mr. Chelakkulam provided a public-safety perspective, addressing campus safety and anti-ragging awareness. He guided students on responsible conduct, prevention, and the appropriate channels for reporting safety concerns.

Key Awareness Areas
The sessions focused deeply on three core areas to educate and empower the student body:
1. Anti-Ragging Awareness
Understanding ragging as behavior that may cause humiliation, fear, distress, or harm.
Promoting respectful interaction between senior and junior students and across all student groups.
Encouraging students to seek help and communicate concerns without hesitation.
Highlighting the importance of institutional discipline and responsible reporting.
2. Anti-Drugs / Substance Abuse Awareness
Raising awareness of the physical, psychological, academic, and social consequences of substance misuse.
Educating students on recognizing risk situations and avoiding harmful peer pressure.
Encouraging students to seek professional or institutional support when difficulties arise.
Promoting healthy coping strategies, positive peer relationships, and responsible choices.
3. Student Responsibility & Safe Campus
Encouraging students to contribute actively to a safe, inclusive, and respectful campus.
Highlighting the critical role of peer support, early communication, and responsible reporting.
Reinforcing that student safety is a shared responsibility among everyone on campus.

The programme featured active student participation, including an interactive segment that provided an opportunity for questions and clarifications. The event concluded powerfully with a collective pledge. Students and faculty members stood together to take an oath, reinforcing their shared commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and drug-free educational environment at Eurotech Maritime Academy.
