Who takes this course
This is the mandatory STCW basic safety training bundle, covering Personal Survival Techniques, Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities, Elementary First Aid and Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting. It is meant for candidates who have completed DG Shipping-approved pre-sea training, hotel management graduates who have completed the OCCP course, ex-Indian Navy or Agniveer personnel with discharge certificates, and hospitality or passenger-service professionals with an employment contract from a DG Shipping-approved cruise recruitment company, all of whom must be medically fit with an INDoS number and Indian passport before going to sea for the first time.
After the course
Completing this twelve-day course and its exit exam qualifies the candidate to go to sea, as every seafarer is required to hold these four basic safety certificates. The certification is valid for five years and is renewed through the separate refresher courses for Fire Fighting and Survival Craft; candidates joining a specific ship type or duty typically follow this with courses such as Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties or, for tanker-bound crew, Basic Training for Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations, all offered at the academy.
Important Notice
Bring CDC, passport, and certificates on the first day.
