Advanced Fire Fighting is for seafarers who are medically fit as per DG Shipping norms and have completed either one year of sea service or six months of sea service plus DG Shipping-approved pre-sea training. It builds on the basic Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting training taken at the start of a seafaring career and covers fire command and control rather than first-time basic awareness.

The certificate is valid for five years and is renewed through the combined Refresher Advanced Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting course at the academy.
