A BSc Nautical Science college in Kerala should be Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) approved and its degree affiliated to the Indian Maritime University (IMU), since both determine whether the qualification leads to a deck officer career. Eurotech Maritime Academy, in Kizhakkambalam near Kochi, runs a BSc Nautical Science programme meeting both.

Candidates who do not meet the BSc eligibility, or want a shorter course, can also look at the one-year Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS), which leads to the same BSc in Applied Nautical Science after sea service. Both are pre-sea, deck-officer routes admitted through the IMU Common Entrance Test.

What Eurotech Maritime Academy offers in Kochi

Eurotech Maritime Academy runs BSc Nautical Science as a three-year, six-semester residential degree at its campus in Kizhakkambalam, Kochi, affiliated to the Indian Maritime University and approved by the Directorate General of Shipping. Admission needs a pass in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at a minimum 60% aggregate, at least 50% in English in 10th or 12th standard, and a rank in IMU-CET followed by centralised counselling. Candidates must be 17 to 25 years old in the general category (higher limits apply for OBC, SC/ST and women candidates), hold an Indian passport, and produce a medical fitness certificate from a DG Shipping-approved doctor.

The course fee is ₹2,00,000 per semester across six semesters, plus a refundable ₹25,000 caution deposit. The fee covers accommodation, food, workshops, laboratory, library, uniform and books, and can be paid semester by semester.

Candidates who want a shorter route, or already have sponsorship from a shipping company, can consider the one-year Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) instead, also admitted through IMU-CET and run at the same Kochi campus. DNS requires sponsorship from a shipping company before admission, and its fee is ₹9,75,000, or ₹4,50,000 for candidates who already hold sponsorship.
