Eurotech Maritime Academy has recently taken a significant step towards expanding its maritime training portfolio by applying for approval to conduct five additional maritime training courses. This initiative reflects the academy’s continued commitment to enhancing the quality and scope of maritime education and training, while supporting the professional development of seafarers in line with industry requirements and applicable maritime training standards.
As part of the approval process, the academy underwent an inspection conducted by the Mercantile Marine Department (MMD), Kochi, on 9th and 10th September 2026. The inspection was carried out to validate the academy’s facilities, infrastructure, and premises in connection with its application to introduce the proposed courses. The inspection formed an important part of the assessment process to verify the academy’s preparedness to deliver the additional training programmes.

The five courses for which Eurotech Maritime Academy has applied for approval are:
Basic Training for Ships Using Fuels Covered Within the IGF Code (IGF) is a mandatory STCW certification course for seafarers with designated safety, operational, or emergency response duties involving low-flashpoint fuels like LNG, LPG, or methanol
Basic Training for Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations (GTFC) – (also known as the Liquefied Gas Tanker Familiarization Course) aimed at developing the knowledge and skills required for personnel involved in Liquefied Gas Tanker operations, subject to the applicable course standards.
Ship Security Officer (SSO) Training – designed to prepare seafarers for the responsibilities associated with ship security, including the implementation and maintenance of ship security measures.
Crisis Management and Human Behaviour Training – intended to develop the skills required to manage emergencies, understand human behaviour under stressful conditions, and respond effectively during crisis situations at sea.
Enhancement of Refresher Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (PSCRB) – intended to reinforce and update seafarers’ knowledge and practical competencies relating to survival craft, rescue boats, and associated emergency procedures.

The inspection by MMD Kochi represents an important milestone in the academy’s efforts to broaden its training capabilities and offer a wider range of specialised maritime courses. The introduction of these programmes is expected to strengthen the academy’s contribution to seafarer training and provide additional learning opportunities for maritime professionals, once the necessary approvals are granted.

At present, Eurotech Maritime Academy is awaiting official approval from MMD Kochi to commence the newly proposed courses. The academy remains committed to fulfilling the applicable regulatory requirements and maintaining the standards expected of an institution providing professional maritime training.
Upon receipt of the required approval, the academy will be able to proceed with the implementation of these additional training programmes in accordance with the conditions stipulated by the competent authority.
This development marks a positive step forward for Eurotech Maritime Academy as it continues to pursue growth, strengthen its training infrastructure, and contribute to the advancement of maritime education and professional competency within the shipping industry.
