Every route into the merchant navy starts with a DG Shipping approved pre-sea course, and which one depends on what you have already passed. Eurotech Maritime Academy runs all of them from its campus in Kizhakkambalam, Kochi.

Four entry points, each leading to a different job at sea or ashore. The photograph beside each one is where that route goes.
Entry after 10th
Rating-level entry
Six months of residential training and a candidate is eligible to sail as crew — the fastest route from school to a merchant ship.
Entry after 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
Officer-cadet entry
These lead to a Certificate of Competency as a deck or engine officer. Diploma in Nautical Science and B.Sc. Nautical Science are admitted through IMU-CET.
Entry after a degree
Graduate entry
Lateral entry for graduates. Mechanical engineers move into marine engineering in a year; electrical and electronics graduates train as Electro-Technical Officers.
Careers ashore
Maritime without the voyage
Logistics, port operations and shipping management degrees for candidates who want the industry without going to sea.

All courses run at Kakkattikara, Panchayath Road, Kizhakkambalam, Ernakulam, Kochi, Kerala 683562. Candidates come from across Kerala, the rest of India and the Gulf; direct trains and buses reach Ernakulam, and Cochin International Airport is a short drive from the campus.
