Course Overview

This intensive Engine Room Simulator Management Level course (MEO Class I) combines short theory sessions with extensive simulator practice to prepare engineers for real-world propulsion decisions and safe operation of main diesel engines. Over 3 days (total 18 hours) trainees work through plant familiarisation, instrumentation & controls, alarm/monitoring systems, performance assessment, and heavy-weather scenarios. The course also features a computer-based combustion-gas simulation module dedicated to finding the best SFOC for a given engine load and fuel grade. Assessment is carried out at course end. Quality standards align with DG Shipping training guidance (Training Circular 31/2018).

  • Assess propulsion plant performance, monitor surveillance parameters and maintain safe operation.
  • Simulate and determine best Specific Fuel Oil Consumption (SFOC) for a specified load and fuel type using combustion-gas simulation tools.
  • Operate effectively under heavy-weather running conditions and apply corrective measures to preserve propulsion safety and efficiency.
